BYU Falls In Heartbreaker Against Santa Clara

PROVO, Utah — BYU suffered their first misstep in conference play, falling to Santa Clara 77-76. Neither team held a lead over four points as they battled for all 40 minutes. It’s a disappointing loss for a BYU team that can’t afford too many losses in WCC play.

Pirates drop another heartbreaker to Grafton

The first time the Pirates played Grafton it was an exciting game that went to overtime, the second time was almost the same. The Pirates jumped out to an early 10 lead only to have the Blackhawks come racing back to take an 11 point lead at halftime. The second half the Blackhawks extended their lead to 15 points before the Pirates came racing back. Kenyon Davis made play after play leading the Pirates with 28 points. Matt Esselman and Aedan Egan each had 12 points. The Blackhawks took the lead with a put back to go up 2 and a three by the Pirates wouldn’t go down in the end to give the Blackhawks the win.

Boys Basketball: Lynx lose heartbreaker to Warriors

Class 4A No. 4 Abraham Lincoln boys basketball fell in a heartbreaker to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in double overtime 65-60. The Lynx scored only two points in the second quarter and trailed by eight at halftime. The Lynx rallied back from that deficit, in large part thanks to a big fourth quarter where the Lynx outscored the Warriors 17-10 to force overtime.

Salem Loses Heartbreaker in Overtime to County Foe East Liverpool

The Salem Quakers freshman team lost a heart breaking game Wednesday afternoon to an extremely talented county foe, the Potters of East Liverpool 57-51 in overtime. The Potters were able to tie up the game with under 10 seconds to go in the 4th quarter and the Quakers could not execute to score a basket at the end of regulation. East Liverpool jumped on the Quakers early in overtime and pulled out the win ultimately. All seven Quakers played exceptional on both ends of the hardwood and all seven found themselves in the scoring column. Colin Riesen led the Quakers with 19 points, while also scoring were Nate Yakubek, James Cibula, Luke Davis, Evan Jones, Steven Landfried and Andrew Beck. The Quakers overall record now stands at 7-4 overall. Their next games is Monday at Springfield.
