From Boat to Table

HALF MOON BAY-Commercial anglers are on board with the progressive concept of hosting a fish market directly from their boats to sell their most recent catches. A small city 40 minutes south of San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, is one harbor that has begun to capitalize on this innovative fish market concept. These devoted, sea-loving anglers and customers are quickly becoming the reason for the Bay area’s growing patronage of locally sourced seafood. In addition, the support for the markets has allowed vendors to pave the pathway to sustainability.

The Bright Side, October 20, 2021

The beach rate monetary increase was on the agenda at the last piers, harbor, and lakefront committee meeting. The beach rate was just increased at the start of 2021 to $8.00 for all adults and children. This was to help simplify things and keep the kiosks running efficiently (and make more money). The lines and wait time to get into the beach in 2020 were long. Part of the reason for this was the kiosks and the patron’s confusion with entering separate requests into the machine for adult and children’s rates. It was a computer problem not predicted until recently and the computer couldn’t handle the requests instantly.

Three Rescued From Capsized Sailboat in Wellfleet Harbor

WELLFLEET — Curt Felix says that if the wind had just stayed steady, he and two other sailors would have enjoyed a beautiful Sunday sail on Oct. 17. Instead, gusts of over 20 knots began to punctuate the 15-knot winds, according to the National Weather Service. All it took was one big gust, while they were on a beam reach two miles offshore in Wellfleet Harbor, to knock the 19-foot Rhodes sailboat into the drink.

Letter: Thankful for fireworks help

A huge thank you for the help with fireworks this year. The Department of Public Works for phenomenal prep work in the cannon fort and thankless clean up on the Boulevard and at Stage Fort. The police for providing required safety details, the Harbormaster (and Coast Guard) for helping with the safety perimeter and keeping moorings clear. The Fire Department and lieutenants Dan and Tom with details and helping me get through the physical demands of putting on the displays. And a special thank you to Lt. Tom Sayess for convincing the Parrott gun canon crew that my idea of moving a rain date and preparation for that would allow the cannon crew to also fire the refurbished cannon that David Dow worked so long and hard to do, and to do it from the fort where it rightfully should. Without all these city departments, we could never put on our displays! Thanks to one and all!
