The development team at Panic creating the unique and highly anticipated Playdate console have today announced that preorders will start later this month on July 29th 2021. Equipped with a cranking handle on the right-hand side the handheld console will provide a unique way to interact with games designed for the console. Not every game will use the crank and it provides developers with a unique way user interaction and control.

Valve is feeling very confident about its brand new handheld PC, the Steam Deck, so much so that it has said that every game tested on the machine has been able to run without any issues. In a video interview with IGN, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais said that the current trend of PC games running at high resolutions and frame rates, allows for even 2021 games to be scaled down easily for the Steam Deck.

Playdate, the upcoming handheld with the distinct yellow design, a black and white screen, and a crank, is opening pre-orders next week on July 29. The device is made by software developers Panic and it’s been created in conjunction with Teenage Engineering, wih a large list of talented indie developers also creating games for the console. The striking design made a splash when it was announced last year, especially with the crank on the side of the device which can be used to control features in many games.
