Towers On Fire: Jimmy Cauty's ESTATE

Jimmy Cauty's 1:25 scale representation of a British housing estate is currently occupying a carpark in Edinburgh. Dave Pollock investigates. On the north side of Edinburgh, on the border of the Muirhouse and Pilton housing schemes, the blades of a chinook attack helicopter shudder overhead, spreading panic below. In the concrete tower blocks around us, signal fires burn and decay and destruction is everywhere. Floors and walls are smashed into rubble, unattended televisions glow in the darkness, the remains of an ad hoc hospital are visible.

Studio Visits: Kostas Seremetis

Kostas Seremetis doesn’t just make art, he “jams.” The New York-based artist redefines the aforementioned musical term of improvising with other musicians, especially in jazz or blues, in his artistic approach. Brandishing a paint brush or pencil as his instruments, the artist loses himself in his work as a musician would if he were engaging in an uninterrupted, solo melody.

Tate Modern invites people to doodle on floor for new exhibit – but will remove rude graffiti

Art gallery attendants are usually occupied by ensuring that a respectful silence is maintained and that no one strays too close to priceless masterpieces. But from Saturday, staff at the Tate Modern’s new exhibition inviting visitors to sketch on the gallery’s floor will be tasked with monitoring the drawings in case some who take part are tempted to daub the kind of rude graffiti normally seen on the back of lavatory doors.
