Reidsville woman found dead in Georgia motel, police arrest suspect

COOPERVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a Reidsville woman that occurred Monday night. According to a news release, at 11:40 p.m. Monday night the GBI was requested by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation at the Holiday Motel located on Statesboro Highway in Coopersville, Georgia.

Nearly two years ago a Fort Bragg teen made national news when she went missing in San Francisco after meeting up with an adult male that she had been communicating with on Instagram. The Northern District of California’s Department of Justice announced in a press release yesterday that the man the Fort Bragg teen was found with, 23-year-old King John Baylon Asuncion, stood in front of a federal judge in San Francisco facing a criminal complaint charging him with the coercion and enticement of a minor.

Baxley man arrested in connection with death of woman at motel

A Baxley man accused of the Sept. 20 murder of a female at a Cooperville motel remains in the Screven County Jail for the court process. The Screven County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Holiday Motel on Statesboro Highway Monday at approximately 11: 11 p.m. in reference to an unresponsive female. It was later determined that she was the victim of a murder.

Suspects from Newton Co among those arrested in GBI child porn bust

A Georgia Bureau of Investigation sting targeting child porn in the metro Atlanta area has landed seven people behind bars. Six of them were charged with crimes related to the possession and distribution of child pornography. The seventh was arrested on drug possession charges. One of the six was also charged with drug possession.

Covington police charge teens after 75 car burglaries reported

COVINGTON, Ga. — Police say they believe two Covington teens were among a group that entered and stole from more than 70 vehicles countywide earlier this month. Tremayne Hill, 18, and Mekhi Nickols, 18, both of Nixon Circle in Covington, were being held in the Newton County Detention Center today on charges related to a rash of thefts from vehicles inside the city.

Chamblee officer fatally shoots man attacking woman with a knife, GBI says

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - A Chamblee Police Department officer fired shots, killing a man, while responding to a domestic violence incident on Wednesday morning. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said at least one Chamblee officer shot and killed 40-year-old Chamblee resident Irlin Paz while he attacked a woman with a knife. The GBI said both Paz and the woman died at the scene.

Christopher Jones convicted on two counts of murder

Christopher Lane Jones was convicted by a jury of his peers today in Coffee County for the murders of Kristian Bell and Steven Ward and for subsequently burying their bodies in the backyard. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Ian Sansot and Jacob Kirkland. Judge J. Kelly Brooks presided over the proceedings.
