CHICAGO - A 27-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in East Garfield Park on the West Side. About 9:25 a.m., Demarcus Reed was in the 700 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, when he was shot in the head and the buttocks, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Susie Hansen Latin Band Lights Up Garfield Park

It was a perfect summer evening for the City of Pasadena’s first concert at Garfield Park on July 25. Susie Hansen Latin Band, a long time Los Angeles staple, had South Pasadenans showing off their best cumbias, rhumbas and cha-cha’s as neighbors happily gathered on the great lawn in Garfield Park. It’s been over 15 months since South Pasadena hosted a live event and one could sense the joy in the air as neighbors settled in on blankets and chairs, eating, dancing and just enjoying being out together listening to live music. Welcome back South Pasadenans. It’s been a long time comin’!

South, West Side Kids Can Go To Free Events With Giveaways, Food, Fun Activities And More Friday

CHICAGO — Kids on the South and West sides can relax with free food, music and fun activities during events Friday night. On the South Side, Girls Inc. is hosting an event where families and kids of all ages can play lawn games, play games inside an e-sport tent and enjoy tacos, smoothies, doughnuts and more, according to a Mayor’s Office news release. There will be raffles and giveaways. The event is at Palmer Park, 201 E. 111th St.

Senior Printmaking at Garfield Park

Garfield Park Conservatory hosted its first ever virtual printmaking class for seniors 55 years old and up. The class was for seniors to connect with others their age as Covid had put a strain on many seniors' abilities to do things that they used to enjoy.The cost of the class which included supplies like, linoleum, a wood block, ink and gauge, was around one hundred dollars but, scholarships were available to pay for the fees. The class was spread throughout eight sessions from the dates February 16th- April 15th classes were two days a week: Monday and Wednesday.

A West Side Vacant Lot Has Been Turned Into An Arts Pop-Up With Vendors, Performances And Creative Workshops

GARFIELD PARK — A West Side summer pop-up series is taking over a vacant lot to give local youths an opportunity to learn, relax and make and sell art. Da Lynx pop-up at 3525 W. Madison St. was organized by Kuumba Lynx, a youth development and arts organization. It will feature local vendors, art exhibitions, creative workshops, a meditation oasis and performances.
