Annual Pioneer Day celebration returns to St. Anthony for the first time in 2 years

ST. ANTHONY – The annual Pioneer Day Celebration in St. Anthony kicked off with a bang Saturday morning. Last year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Danny Elliott, Chairman of the Fremont County Pioneer Days Board, tells EastIdahoNews.com people are excited to gather for this event and he anticipates anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000 people to attend.

FPS students to develop performing arts skills during weeklong camp

Fremont youth will have the opportunity to take the stage next week as part of a weeklong youth musical camp. The camp was created nine years ago by Mark Harman, director of choirs at Fremont High School. Terry M. McCarthy, 58 years, of Scribner, NE passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont, NE. Terry was born October 1, 1962 to Richard and Judy (Adams) McCarthy in Omaha, NE. In 1977, Terry and his family moved to Fremont. He graduated from Fremont High School, class of 1980. He moved to David City, NE for a short time and moved back to Fremont in 2004. In 2005, Terry met the love of his life, Jamie Sommers. Gretchen M. Johannesen (Pruyn) died Saturday, July 17, 2021. She was born in Fremont on April 13, 1932 to Norton A. and Martha E. (Janowski) Pruyn. She was the third of four sisters. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1950. Gretchen had an amazing group of friends from her graduating class that had kept in touch all through the years. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – July 11, 2021 – NBC Sports Bay Area and Provident Credit Union have announced Tomokazu Morikawa of George Washington High School in San Francisco as the recipient of the 2021 All-Star Teacher Award, presented by Provident Credit Union. The $20,000 award was presented to Morikawa on Saturday, July 10 during an on-field ceremony prior to the San Francisco Giants/ Washington Nationals game at Oracle Park. Additionally, each of the All-Star Teacher Award finalists will receive $2,000 for his/her school.
