Margaret Scibeck, 78; service Saturday

Margaret Hamilton Nobles Scibeck, 78, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at her home. A private memorial service is at 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 7 at her home. Margaret was born on August 18, 1942, in Greenville, North Carolina, to the late John Everett Nobles and Rena Hamilton Nobles. In 1960, she graduated from Rose High School. She debuted in 1961, and lived life her way. After her debut she moved to New York City and stayed at the Mary Washington Hotel for women and modeled for Macy’s. Her looks were stunning, only surpassed by her personality. She had the good fortune to meet her soul mate, Dick Baxter, her husband of 48 years, and travel the world with him during his overseas assignments with the Marine Corps. She loved her sons, Charles, an administrator at The Citadel, and her younger son Richard, who returned to Morehead City to care for her and his father in the final stages of their life. Richard would only leave them to return to his alma mater for football games. Roll Tide!

Michael Irvin: Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott faces 'a lot of pressure'

Football will finally be back as of Thursday — to some extent. The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are set to face off at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, which annually marks the official start of the NFL preseason. If Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gets some snaps, it will be the first time he has taken the field for a game since suffering a season-ending leg injury midway through last season. Due to a muscle strain in Prescott's shoulder suffered at the start of camp, he might sit this game out.

Milton and Travis forming bond amid QB competition

TALLAHASSEE -- Both Jordan Travis and McKenzie Milton admittedly had some anxiety about working together at Florida State before they met. The trepidation made sense. Milton was coming into a situation where Travis was established as the starting quarterback and won teammates over with his gritty play, and Travis knew that the incoming transfer brought some significant big-game experience and production with him to Tallahassee. He wasn't coming to willingly hold a clipboard on game days.

The University of North Texas is taking the next step to get more people on campus vaccinated as it prepares to return to in-person classes and activities. Grizzlies analyze key roles in scrimmage against South Greene

RUTLEDGE – If last Friday’s scrimmage is any indication of things to come, Grainger fans are going to see a lot of Tucker Gillette this football season. The Grizzlies took to the field at The Den for a scrimmage against South Greene and the junior seemed to be everywhere all night long. On defense, he made several stops which included tackles for loss and on offense, his number was called multiple times to run the ball. Grainger head coach Mike Manis said he likes what he has seen from Gillette so far in Fall practice. “I’m really proud of Tucker. He still made some mental mistakes but overall, he can find the football, is physical and can run downhill. Tucker made plays tonight.”
