Florida vs. LSU score: Tigers' ground game, four interceptions overwhelm No. 20 Gators in shootout

Florida and LSU provided yet another memorable chapter in their rivalry on Saturday. The Tigers upset the No. 20 Gators 49-42 at Tiger Stadium in a game that LSU coach Ed Orgeron desperately needed to keep his seat from getting any hotter. Tyrion Davis-Price's 287 rushing yards were an LSU record and the most ever allowed by Florida to an opposing running back, breaking the previous mark of 238 yards set by Georgia legend Herschel Walker in 1980.

Florida vs. LSU: On fighting ghosts

I used a certain Jay-Z couplet long, long ago, for a preview of Jeff Driskel that I think holds up rather well even for a piece that posited a team that would go 4-8 had a national championship as its best-case scenario. But today inspired me to use it again, so here it is again: “‘Hov got flows, but he’s no Big and ‘Pac, but he’s close’ / How’m I ‘sposed to win? They got me fightin’ ghosts.”

The murderer’s row portion of the LSU Tigers’ schedule continues in Saturday’s SEC tilt with the visiting Florida Gators. An ugly loss to Kentucky followed a heartbreaker at Tiger Stadium against Auburn for LSU. Meanwhile, the Gators took care of business against a bad Vanderbilt team in The Swamp after dropping a 20-13 loss at Kentucky. Florida suffered a 37-34 loss to LSU when these two teams last met up in 2020.

Gator Gameday: Storylines, question marks and key matchup for Florida at LSU

Things to watch in Florida’s road game against LSU. 1. LSU has been decimated by injuries, losing four starters just this week in wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, cornerback Eli Ricks and defensive linemen Ali Gaye and Joseph Evans. The Tigers are now without nine players listed as starters on the depth chart before the season opener. The Gators, meanwhile, are expected to get back tackle Richard Gouraige and corner Kaiir Elam, who missed the last three games. Gouraige was out vs. Vanderbilt along with tailback Malik Davis, who’s questionable to return.
