As the Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball beat the Florida State Seminoles 62-57 and now moved to 7-0 on the season and 1-0 in ACC play, we’ve got five takeaways. With FSU entering today 1-7 and UVA coming off a big win on the road against Michigan, there was rightfully an expectation that Virginia would blow the doors off a surprisingly bad Leonard Hamilton team. Yet, after the Seminoles kept things competitive against #5 Purdue and only lost to the Boilermakers by ten points, this proved to be a more challenging contest than many expected.

(AP) —Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton paid Kihei Clark a huge compliment in the handshake line after the fifth-year point guard helped lead No. 3 Virginia over the Seminoles 62-57. “I’ll be glad when you go,” Hamilton said he told Clark, who scored 18 points Saturday. “He smiled. See, I gotcha, though. That’s what he was thinking.”

The Cavaliers were not at their sharpest in their ACC opener against Florida State, shooting just 6-26 from the field in the first half, but Virginia turned a one point, halftime deficit into a 12-point lead in just over eight minutes into the second half.
