Anglers hope to school the fish in Tidioute this weekend

TIDIOUTE, Warren County — In 1959 a group of fisherman in Tidioute had the idea of creating a little fishing tournament. The local Chamber of Commerce got involved, and the entire town was decorated to welcome the anglers. The tournament winners are designated the “King or Queen of Pennsylvania fishing.”

Angling for some fun: Youth gather at American Legion's first fishing derby in Monroe

MONROE — Young anglers from throughout the area gathered at Great Hollow Lake in Monroe Saturday to put their fishing skills to the test. The youth fishing derby was the first held by the American Legion Department of Connecticut’s 3rd District, but Legion Committeeman Mike Kellett hopes that the strong turnout bodes well for this becoming an annual event.

Senoia Optimist Club Fishing Rodeo winners announced

The Optimist Club of Senoia hosted a Fishing Derby for Kids on Saturday, September 18 at Marimac Lakes Park in Senoia. The derby was for youth from 5 to 15 years old. There were 84 youth in attendance with their parents and grandparents. Members of the Senoia Optimist Club were also on hand to register the participants, assist as judges, and to provide first aid if necessary.

Vamos a Pescar wraps up year with fishing derby, fish fry

For the third and final time this year, more than 50 families gathered at Peter Pan Park to enjoy the great outdoors and the classic pastime of fishing Saturday morning. Vamos a Pescar — Spanish for “let’s go fishing” — is a program that has introduced local families to the outdoor activities for the past five years and this year, thanks to a grant from the George H.W. Bush Vamos a Pescar Education Fund, it was able to put on three events and serve 53 families from May-September.

Illinois House member David Welter will host a fishing derby for children next weekend. The purpose is to teach kids about fishing and to let them practice their skills. Illinois Conservation Police will make a presentation about water and boating safety. There’ll be help for kids to bait hooks and reel in fish.
