Canandaigua Police have identified the victim in Saturday night’s fatal hit-and-run accident. 62-year-old Edwin Wesley was crossing Main Street near Niagara Street in the crosswalk on his motorized scooter when he was struck by a mid-1950’s green Ford pickup truck, which continued on. Wesley was airlifted to Rochester’s Strong Memorial and later died from his injuries.
A one-car accident in Wayne County Sunday night killed a 53-year old Butler man. Rodney Burgess was driving south on State Route 89 just after 7 o’clock when he lost control of his car, which went off the west side of the road and struck a tree. Burgess, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a fatal hit and run incident in the city of Canandaigua Saturday night. At 6:09pm, Canandaigua Police responded to the report of a hit and run on South Main Street near Niagara Street. Officers found that an elderly disabled man on a motorized scooter was struck while in a crosswalk by a mid 1950s green Ford pickup truck. The truck then fled the scene.
New York Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy made a stop in Auburn Monday as part of his “Just Say No” tour, which highlights the Party’s opposition to November election ballot propositions related to election integrity. Langworthy is urging no votes on Proposition One, which repeals and amends portions of a 2014 state constitutional amendment that created a redistricting commission and Propositions Three and Four which call for same-day voter registration and permanently expanding absentee ballots to any voter regardless of excuse.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports a drunk driver caused a car crash in the town of Manchester Saturday night. Saxon Gavitt was arrested by Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies after he crashed into another vehicle, causing that vehicle to go off the road, striking a utility pole. A town of Ontario man was arrested Saturday morning for driving while intoxicated. Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over Kevin C Allen on State Route 104 in the town of Ontario just before 2:30am after noticing he only had one functioning headlight. While examining the front end of the vehicle, deputies noticed heavy damage and debris. Allen was found by deputies to be intoxicated and taken to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office where a breath sample produced a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.14%.

A Lyons man was arrested on a Wayne County Superior Court bench warrant Saturday night but not before he took off on arresting officers. 34-year old Richard Taft was the passenger in a car stopped by State Police. Taft is accused of jumping out of the car and running into a friend’s apartment. The Sheriff’s Department located Taft a short time later inside the apartment and took him into custody.

Seneca Falls police have announced the arrest of Troy P Meland, of Marion, on Wednesday. The arrest stems from an event on September 11, where Meland struck a person with a metal pipe. Meland fled the scene but was later arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department on unrelated charges. When he was released by the Sheriff’s Department , the police responded and placed him into custody on an arrest warrant.
Early voting began Saturday in Cayuga County. Election Commissioner for Cayuga County, Katie Lacey, says she expects people to take advantage of the early voting process. Lacey also says that as more people get used to early voting, she expects voter turn out to be higher than in past local elections.
