Waterloo Volley for a Cure event raises $3,000

On Saturday, Waterloo High School held their annual “Waterloo Volley for a Cure” volleyball scrimmage tournament which was formerly known as Dig Pink. The first event started back in 2009 – last year Waterloo HS was unable to host due to the pandemic. Waterloo’s Athletic Director Christal Kent was proud to announce that this year’s event made over $3,000 to donate to Thrive to Survive (Thrive To Survive) and local Waterloo families who are battling cancer.

Pet of the Week: Ophelia & Obie, Finger Lakes SPCA

(WETM) – This week’s Pet of the Week are Ophelia and Obie, two five-month-old kittens at the Finger Lakes SPCA. Ophelia (a petite Orange Tabby) & Obie (a large Brown Tabby kitten) have up-to-date vaccinations and are already spayed and neutered. Both kittens enjoy human attention and don’t mind being picked up. They are very well socialized and are litterbox trained.

Chilly Monday leads into mild mid-week

The storm system that moved through the region over the weekend will bring us one more day of chilly, breezy, unsettled weather. A series of disturbances are rotating around the backside of the low and over our region. As each disturbance moves through, rain showers are enhanced. More scattered lake effect showers then follow.

Lake Ontario Outflows Increased for Next Eight Weeks

Lake Ontario outflows will be increased by 200 m3/s (7,100 cfs) above the amount set by Plan 2014, beginning October 16. This will continue for approximately eight weeks to return water levels in Lake Ontario to the level it would be had outflow deviations not been required earlier this year.

Wayne County Covid Update

Wayne County Public Health reported 33 new case of COVID-19 Friday afternoon. This update brings the total number of positive COVID cases in the county to 7,618. 10 of the 33 new cases reported are among children. Wayne County has had 64 deaths related to COVID-19. Get the top stories...

Regional Forecast – Finger Lakes (10/17/21)

Waking up to fairly cloudy skies with stray showers this Saturday morning. Spotty showers will move in later this afternoon as winds stay in favor of lake-effect. Staying windy with a weak trough just downwind of the Great Lakes. Temperatures hardly change as clouds and chances of rain hold out. High temperatures today reaching the mid to upper 50’s. Late afternoon through the overnight, conditions remain favorable for light showers as the weak trough stalls near our area. Temperatures will drop down into the low 40’s.

Drug Take Back Events Next Week

Local law enforcement agencies will be partnering with pharmacies next week for a drug take back event. Expired or unused medication can be taken to either the Kinney Drugs in Seneca Falls or the Walgreens in Waterloo (both on Rt 5&20) for safe disposal Saturday, October 23 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Both locations will also have gun locks available to help prevent misuse of firearms.
