Summer solstice 2021 on Father's Day, the longest of the year, marks Earth's changing seasons

The official start of summer kicks off in the Northern Hemisphere today (June 20), marking the longest day of the year — which also happens to coincide with Father's Day. The June solstice will occur at 11:32 p.m. EDT (0332 June 21 GMT), when the sun reaches the point at which it is farthest north of the celestial equator. Reaching its highest and northernmost point in the sky, the sun must travel its longest path, meaning it will take longer to rise and to set, which is why today marks the longest day — or longest period of sunlight hours — and shortest night.

Father’s Day in L.A.: Ways to celebrate Dad — besides watching sports

With the state reopening, Father’s Day 2021 is looking a whole lot different from last year. Restaurants are expected to operate at full capacity, music festivals are back on the calendar and fully vaccinated Californians have been given the green light to ditch their face masks at many (but not all) places. For those eager to break out of their pandemic shells and maybe brave the return of packed crowds (and yes, traffic), Los Angeles has Father’s Day weekend events that go beyond ballgames and beer.

The Ars Technica Father’s Day 2021 gift guide

Let's be real here: the best gift you and the family could probably get Dad this Father's Day is to leave him alone. But if you're determined grab him a token of your appreciation, even after he's said "I don't need anything" for the 10th time, we've done what we usually do to lend you a hand: test out a bunch of gear, figure out what's good, then report back with the things we think your gift recipient might actually like.
