The official start of summer kicks off in the Northern Hemisphere today (June 20), marking the longest day of the year — which also happens to coincide with Father's Day. The June solstice will occur at 11:32 p.m. EDT (0332 June 21 GMT), when the sun reaches the point at which it is farthest north of the celestial equator. Reaching its highest and northernmost point in the sky, the sun must travel its longest path, meaning it will take longer to rise and to set, which is why today marks the longest day — or longest period of sunlight hours — and shortest night.

With the state reopening, Father’s Day 2021 is looking a whole lot different from last year. Restaurants are expected to operate at full capacity, music festivals are back on the calendar and fully vaccinated Californians have been given the green light to ditch their face masks at many (but not all) places. For those eager to break out of their pandemic shells and maybe brave the return of packed crowds (and yes, traffic), Los Angeles has Father’s Day weekend events that go beyond ballgames and beer.
Let's be real here: the best gift you and the family could probably get Dad this Father's Day is to leave him alone. With many COVID-19 restrictions lifted, celeb dads are back to big barbecues and special days with their families.
