Ashley Olsen Made a Rare Red Carpet Appearance in Full-On Monochrome

The Olsen twins' sightings are few and far between, so anytime one makes an appearance, it's kind of a big deal. On Thursday night, Ashley Olsen made her return to the red carpet — and, of course, she did so in her go-to monochrome. The actress stepped out at the YES 20th Anniversary Celebration in Beverly Hills with her longtime boyfriend Louis Eisner, whose father is the founder of the organization. For the special event, she wore a chic all-black outfit comprised of a floor-length black dress with a high neckline and a long black coat draped over her shoulders.

Glenn Martens Becomes Jean Paul Gaultier’s New Couture Collaborator

Glenn Martens has just officially become the busiest designer in fashion. (And let’s face it, these days that’s saying something.) Martens, the original and inventive talent behind Y/Project, who’s also the creative director of Diesel, is now adding a third gig to his packed schedule: Jean Paul Gaultier Couture. (Chitose Abe of Sacai presented the first designer-in-residence collection for Gaultier this past July.) Luckily for Martens’s packed calendar this will be a one-off engagement. He will show his vision of Gaultier’s haute couture, which has always been an incredible and energetic fusion of pop culture and time honored artisanal craft, not to mention the visionary brilliance of JPG himself, in January 2022.

Carolina Herrera Awarded with 2021 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion

"It's rare to see a brand today that really embodies one person like Carolina Herrera," says Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. "Whenever she walks into the room—and this happened the other week at lunch—everyone turns to see what she is wearing. Wes is in the interesting position of having not only the archives, but the person, as inspiration." Ahead of the Couture Council Luncheon, Dr. Steele took T&C through FIT's legendary archives, which include pieces donated by Herrera herself, as well as the first piece they have acquired from Gordon's Carolina Herrera collections. She noted how well Gordon has interpreted many of Herrera's signatures—polka dots, collared shirts, voluminous sleeves and skirts—but with updated silhouettes and always with an eye to bright colors, which Dr. Steele believes he does extremely well.

The Art of Fashion

Friday, September 24, 2021. High 70s yesterday with mainly a cloudy day, with a cooling fresh and gusty breeze coming off the river, telling us to hold onto our hats. Rain was forecast for the evening and about 6:30 PM, massive and ominous dark clouds were approaching from the west. The rain was almost instantly torrential. For more than an hour, pounding creating a cloud of steam, the temps dropped to the low 60s. I was dining outside at Sette just as it began. It was the story; Mother Nature decides, not us.
