See the Live in Front of a Studio Audience cast next to the original sitcom stars

Whelchel played spoiled rich girl Blair Warner for all nine seasons of The Facts of Life, while Aniston played spoiled rich girl Rachel Green for all 10 seasons of Friends. Aniston may in fact (of life) be overqualified for this role. Brrr! It's cold in here! There must be some Tootie in the atmosphere! Fields skated to stardom as the youngest of Mrs. Garrett's girls, Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey, in 1979, while Union cheered her way to icon status in 2000's Bring It On.

Who swore on live TV? Who kept laughing? What you missed from ABC’s ‘Facts of Life’ and ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ reenactments.

At the beginning of ABC’s latest “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” special on Tuesday night, in which celebrities reenacted episodes of classic sitcoms, executive producer and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel offered a reminder for the audience: “The show is live,” he said. “If it goes off the rails, it goes off the rails.”

Kevin Hart and cast surprises rescue 'Facts of Life' and 'Diff'rent Strokes' revival

First, an admission: I've never been a huge fan of Jimmy Kimmel's Live In Front of a Studio Audience specials. The late night host's idea – redoing classic Norman Lear sitcom episodes live with modern stars – is wonderful. But in practice, past outings featuring Woody Harrelson as All in the Family's Archie Bunker, Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson from The Jeffersons and Jay Pharoah as J.J. in Good Times never felt right to me.

ABC's Facts of Life Live Begins With OG Cast Reunion — Grade Reenactment

The first half of Tuesday’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience transported audiences to Eastland Academy in Peekskill, N.Y., where a star-studded ensemble — led by Friends‘ Jennifer Aniston and WandaVision‘s Kathryn Hahn — recreated a classic episode of the 1980s comedy The Facts of Life. But before the reenactment got underway, original series star Lisa Whelchel (aka Blair Warner) entered in her Eastland uniform to perform the series’ iconic theme song, which culminated in an all-too-brief reunion with former costars Mindy Cohn (Natalie Green) and Kim Fields (Tootie Ramsey). (Nancy McKeon, who originated the role of Jo Polniaczek, did not...

But they stopped by ABC special Live in Front of a Studio Audience to impart some of that wisdom to new cast members bringing their beloved 1980s sitcom to life.

That’s down from the 5.8 million viewers that tuned in for the December 2019 version.

Norman Lear on Reintroducing the Classics

Like most Gen-Xers, Jimmy Kimmel was introduced to the world of Norman Lear — and sitcoms in general — courtesy of local afternoon TV. Before Nick at Nite and TV Land launched in the 1980s, Kimmel says, “I remember coming home from school and watching these shows in syndication back-to-back on Channel 5 Las Vegas. It was just part of my day. I’d come home from school, and I had a very busy schedule of TV shows to watch.”
