Pella Regional Health Center was recognized by The Robert D. & Billie Ray Center at Drake University for being All-Star Iowans who have demonstrated great character in response to COVID-19. First West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes in Greenwich this Year

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program announced that mosquitoes trapped in Mianus River Park have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). These are the first positive mosquitoes identified by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station (CAES) in Greenwich this year. In addition to Greenwich, WNV positive mosquito pools have been found in Darien, Milford, New Haven, South Windsor, Stamford and Waterford. The mosquitoes trapped (Culex pipiens, Culex restuans) are generally bird and mammal biting which breed in standing water often found in artificial containers like discarded tires, birdbaths and catch basins. During 2020, eight (8) Connecticut residents developed WNV-associated illness including two (2) Greenwich residents, the cases were not fatal. So far this year EEE has not been isolated in mosquitoes in Connecticut. The State Mosquito Management Program continues to trap and test mosquitoes at three testing sites in Greenwich as part of their program and will continue through October 2021.

Comment period opens for Elwha River bridge project

Comment is being accepted now on an environmental assessment of a project to replace the Elwha River Bridge on U.S. Highway 101 west of Port Angeles. The state Department of Transportation’s (DOT) $35.5 million project would build a new Elwha River Bridge that would be 40 feet wide and accommodate two 12-foot lanes with two 8-foot shoulders, replacing the current bridge, which is 28 feet wide.

The curbside yard trimming program began July 2018 to help the community reduce the amount of yard trimming material sent to the landfill. By reducing the amount of yard trimming materials sent to the landfill, the county reduces the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere by avoiding hauling and disposal. The yard trimming cart is a helpful tool for residents to dispose of pine needles, grass clippings, branches and leaves in an environmentally friendly way.

Ferrovial sells its environmental business to Germany’s Schwartz Group | Economie

Ferrovial has reached an agreement to sell its environmental business in Spain and Portugal to PreZero, a subsidiary of Germany’s Schwarz Group. The process takes place as part of the Ferrovial Servicios divestment, a division from which the environmental business has been dismantled to facilitate negotiation and sale. The deal, which includes the transfer of garbage collection, treatment and recycling, amounts to 1,133 million euros, which includes capital and debt, and represents a capital gain of about 317 million, assuming that share value 950 million signature time, which can vary slightly due to accounting adjustments. The final closing of the deal is pending the usual terms and regulatory clearances by European authorities and is expected to take place in the second half of 2021.
