Sheriff's office investigating threat of violence at ENC high school

LA GRANGE, Lenoir County — Students at an eastern North Carolina high school received a threat that something violent would take place at the school. Sheriff Ronnie Ingram said the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office was alerted Thursday afternoon ago about the threat and several deputies were sent to provide security and to investigate the information.

Suspended ENC lawyer accused of impersonating another attorney pleads guilty to visa fraud

WILMINGTON, New Hanover County — An eastern North Carolina woman whose law license had been suspended has pled guilty to visa fraud. Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina G. Norman Acker, III said Roydera Hackworth, 63, of Wilmington was an attorney licensed to practice in North Carolina but was suspended by the state bar in 2012 and by the Board of Immigration Appeals from practicing in immigration matters in 2014.

ENC man arrested on child sex charge, victim age 13

PINE KNOLL SHORES, Carteret County — An eastern North Carolina man has been arrested on child sex crime charges. Carteret County Sheriff’s Deputies and Pine Knoll Shores Police arrested Andrew Tyler Lewis, 26, of New Bern after a month-long internet crimes against children investigation off Hwy 24 outside of Morehead City.
