A programmer was able to extract a mythical SNES emulator using an NSA tool

The retro game emulation scene has evolved into a bustling economy unto itself, even as the term “retro” (as it pertains to gaming) has become harder to define. Emulation has emerged as a sub-genre within the larger umbrella of the gaming industry and serves as not only a means to experience games from previous eras, but also as a quasi-archive of sorts. One of the early progenitors of the retro gaming scene in our modern internet era was the NESticle, a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator, that was released for PC.

Cadence Palladium Z2 Enterprise Emulation Platform Accelerates Microchip’s Data Center Solutions SoC Development

Palladium Z2 Emulation enabled Microchip to achieve 1.5X faster run-time performance and 2X better emulation capacity. SAN JOSE, Calif.— Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDNS) today announced that Microchip has deployed the Cadence® Palladium® Z2 Enterprise Emulation Platform for the development of their next generation ASIC products targeting high performance and scalable SoC solutions for data centers. The Palladium Z2 platform provided Microchip with 2X better emulation capacity, enabling more simultaneous users and 1.5X greater performance gains versus the previous generation emulator while maintaining full compatibility with existing emulation setups and use models.

Efficient emulation of relativistic heavy ion collisions with transfer learning

Measurements from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) can be used to study the properties of quark-gluon plasma. Systematic constraints on these properties must combine measurements from different collision systems and methodically account for experimental and theoretical uncertainties. Such studies require a vast number of costly numerical simulations. While computationally inexpensive surrogate models ("emulators") can be used to efficiently approximate the predictions of heavy ion simulations across a broad range of model parameters, training a reliable emulator remains a computationally expensive task. We use transfer learning to map the parameter dependencies of one model emulator onto another, leveraging similarities between different simulations of heavy ion collisions. By limiting the need for large numbers of simulations to only one of the emulators, this technique reduces the numerical cost of comprehensive uncertainty quantification when studying multiple collision systems and exploring different models.

Legendary SNES Emulator Liberated Using NSA Tool

The fabled SNES emulator known as SNESticle, which for much of the past two decades was considered to be nothing more than a rumour, has finally been unearthed and excavated by a Swedish programmer using, of all things, a National Security Agency-designed open source tool. SNESticle, the follow-up to Icer...

PS2 emulator PCSX2 adds in Vulkan API support

How about some better performance for emulating the PlayStation 2? That's what you're going to get with Vulkan support now hooked up nicely in PCSX2. Writing on Twitter the official account said: "A lot of people were asking for a Vulkan renderer and courtesy of Stenzek (Duckstation) it is finally here! It performs better than OpenGL in a lot of cases on similar blending levels so it should make a couple of harder to run games much easier to play! Thanks Sten!". They also included this screenshot:
