‘Dune: Part Two’ Guide: 9 Details to Know Right Now About Denis Villeneuve’s Sequel

It’s no surprise: All signs were pointing to a “Dune” sequel by the time Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel opened in U.S. theaters (Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff all but confirmed a follow-up movie on October 21, the day before the film’s opening). On October 26, came official confirmation from Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. that “Dune: Part Two” was officially a go.

Five huge ways Denis Villeneuve’s Dune changed the novel — and set up Part 2

The most famous science fiction novel of all time is now the buzziest movie of 2021. Delayed by nearly a year, Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part One is finally in theaters and on HBO Max. Fair warning: the movie is a lot to take in, as are the novels that inspired it. The world-building of Frank Herbert’s distant future is layered, its stakes every-shifting. And throughout his six Dune books, the scope broadens to a degree nearly unparalleled in other sci-fi series.

Dune: Part 2 Is Officially Happening: What to Expect

Update 10/26: What was by and large a given already at this point has just been confirmed: Part 2 has officially been greenlit. D2ne, 2 Dune 2 Furious, Dune 2: Electric Boogaloo… whatever sequel title they settle on, it's definitely happening. Legendary Entertainment, the production company that fronts the movie alongside Warner Bros, shared the news via Twitter, and Timmy even made a rare post to Instagram to spread the word. More visions, more Zendaya and more sandworms are soon to come.\

Why ‘Dune Part Two’ Is Yet Another Blow To ‘Star Trek 4’

Two bits of good news for Dune yesterday. First, the $165 million sci-fi epic earned another $3.9 million on Tuesday, bringing its five-day cume to $48.5 million. The 8% jump from Monday (which itself dropped 63% from Sunday) is better than the 1.3% drop for F9 on its first Tuesday after itself dropping 63% from Sunday. It’s a smaller jump than Venom 2 (+9%), but the superhero sequel dropped 72% on its first Monday. Its five-day “weekend to cume” multiplier is 1.18x, on par with F9 and Black Widow. It’s not the next Titanic or Fellowship of the Ring, but it’s sticking around for now. Oh, and the Legendary/Warner Bros. film officially got a sequel yesterday afternoon, with Dune part Two now set for October 20, 2023.

Box Office: If ‘Dune’ Succeeds, The Sequel Could Be An Even Bigger Hit

Oddly enough, my IMAX showing of No Time to Die last night included the second Dune trailer, the one released in late July 2022, as opposed to this new pitch. The key bit is the very end, during which Zendaya offers up a grin and remarks to Timothée Chalamet that “This is only the beginning,” which should clue some folks into the notion that Dune won’t be a one-and-done narrative.

: How many Dune movie trilogies will there be?

After Dune (finally!) hits HBO Max and theaters on October 22, everyone will want to know one thing: What’s up with the sequel? And beyond that, just how long is this Dune series anyway?. After Dune: Part One, there will (hopefully) be a Dune: Part Two. And that’s not all;...
