The Nebraska Drifters, part of a group of high school tennis players from the Western Nebraska Tennis Club, were invited to play in the World Team Tennis National Tournament at the USTA National Tennis Campus in Orlando, Florida the week of June 29. Coached by Bridgeport’s own Darren Emerick, the team travelled on a last-minute submission to the Sunshine State for the 25th annual Junior National event and, though they did not place in the tournament, they did win the Maureen Connolly Brinker Team Spirit Award and a check for $1,000.00 to help them cover expenses. In this photo on opening day are team members Mason Michaelis, Olivia Koetter, Joslyn Hammond, Coach Darren Emerick, Ethan Ramirez, and Ethan Gion. Ramierz and Gion are Scottsbluff Bearcats. Wilcox, Koetter, Hammond and Michaelis are from the McCook Bison tennis team.
