Former Huntsville city councilman Richard Showers dies

Richard Showers, who served almost 30 years on the Huntsville city council, has died. The city of Huntsville on Saturday announced Showers’ death. He was 73. Council members Bill Kling and Devyn Keith asked for prayers for Showers at Thursday’s council meeting, acknowledging that he was in poor health. Keith, who defeated Showers in 2016 to win his seat on the council, has repeatedly praised his predecessor while in office and frequently referred to him as a “titan.”
