County council to hold solid waste educational session Sept. 30

County council will host a session Sept. 30 to learn the pros and cons of solid waste handling, including the future of the Covanta Chester facility. Delaware County Council will host an educational session on how the county handles solid waste at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 in the county council meeting room in the Government Center, 201 W. Front St. in Media.

Arts and culture open 2021-22 season of Delaware County Press Club

Media– The Delaware County Press Club has announced that members of the Delaware County Arts Consortium will be the special guests for their Celebration of the Arts Happy Hour event, 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford. The event kicks off the club’s 2021-2022 season and is a celebration of Delco Arts Week taking place October 2 – 9. At the Celebration of the Arts event, members of the press and guests will have the opportunity to learn about the many unique artistic venues and cultural experiences that Delaware County has to offer; get an inside look into the Arts Consortium organizations and learn about their latest programs and productions, music projects, and exhibitions; and find out how residents can access a wide range of art experiences throughout the county during Delco Arts Week.

Department of Human Services, Delaware County Leaders Urge Pennsylvanians Not to Wait to Apply for Rental Assistance

MEDIA, PA — Department of Human Services (DHS) Acting Secretary Meg Snead joined Vice Chair of the Delaware County Council Dr. Monica Taylor, Delaware County Councilwoman Elaine Schaefer, and state representatives Chris Quinn and Mike Zabel on Thursday to urge Pennsylvanians at risk of eviction or utility shutoffs because of COVID-19 to apply for assistance available through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). ERAP can help people who are facing eviction pay past due and upcoming rent or pay utility bills or other costs necessary to help them be safely housed.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — August 25, 2021— Nurses and other frontline workers are dealing with stresses and challenges unlike any time in recent history. Recognizing the need for additional mental health resources and support, the Independence Blue Cross Foundation is collaborating with Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic on a program with NeuroFlow, a mental health software company based in Philadelphia. Chester’s Mayor asked to join the Solid Waste Authority, too!

At last night’s Delaware County Council meeting, Chester City’s Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland gave a pubic comment to thank Council for providing grass cutting in Chester’s parks and to emphasize how the Covanta trash incinerator is a great business partner to the city of Chester. He also announced an upcoming tour of Covanta for residents living near the facility which he also extended to the County Council members to join. He closed with a plea to be considered for appointment to the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority stressing his qualifications as a career elected official in state and city government for close to 30-years. And then he left the room.
