Who won the Daytona 500? Full results, winner from NASCAR’s 2022 season-opening race

For the fourth time since 2018, the Daytona 500 has ended in an overtime period. And, for the first time since 2011, a rookie has made their way to the winner's circle at the Daytona International Speedway: Austin Cindric of Team Penske. The rookie found themselves leading the field after two crashes (drawing the sixth and seventh cautions of the day, respectively) in the final six laps of the race.

The 64th running of the Daytona 500 came down to contact between Penske teammates Cindric and Ryan Blaney, allowing Bubba Wallace a chance to dive to the inside of Cindric. Across the line, Cindric took the checkered flag by just 0.036s over Wallace, winning NASCAR's biggest race in just his second attempt. Cindric has just eight Cup Series starts as well, and will now be locked into the 2022 playoffs.

Daytona 500 kicks off with Kyle Larson in pole position

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2022 Daytona 500 has officially kicked off on Sunday with 40 drivers competing in the 64th running of the Great American Race. Country star Trace Adkins sang the national anthem and NFL legend Charles Woodson gave the famous starting command: "Start your engines!" FOX CEO Lachlan Murdoch waved the green flag.

Before the Daytona 500 could get underway on Sunday, there had to be a stirring rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” to kick things off. Country singer Trace Adkins performed the national anthem, which culminated with a flyover through a crystal clear blue sky in Florida. Kaz Grala Has Scary Moment During The Daytona 500

We have our first lost tire of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series and it came at the expense of Kaz Grala at the Daytona 500. During Stage 1 of the race, Grala’s Camaro ZL1 lost a tire, which detached from the singular lugnut and flew out in front of his car, creating a major hazard that the other racers were able to avoid. Grala was avoid to avoid disaster and returned to his station to get a new tire.
