As Jake Arrieta prepares for the 1st start of his 2nd stint with the Chicago Cubs, Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins knows what it’s like to return ‘home’ after years away

When right-hander Jake Arrieta takes the mound Saturday, 1,263 days will have passed since he pitched at Wrigley Field in a Chicago Cubs uniform. Arrieta helped the Cubs from being eliminated in the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, holding them to one run in 6⅔ innings in a 3-2 win on Oct. 18, 2017, at Wrigley. The next day, a blowout loss ended the Cubs’ season and, seemingly, Arrieta’s career with the organization.

Chicago Cubs walk 11 batters and manage only 2 hits in a season-opening 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field: ‘It was a battle the whole time out there’

Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks knew from the first pitch he threw it would be a fight. Hendricks had to battle through command issues and never got on track in his opening-day start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He walked the first batter in what would become a familiar trend for the pitching staff Thursday in a 5-3 loss to the Pirates in front of 10,343 fans at Wrigley Field.

Silver Lining to Opening Day Loss: Cubs Can’t Really Play Worse…Right?

Opening Day is always met with joyful optimism, even by those whose teams figure to be staring down a last-place finish by the time it’s all said and done. Thursday brought a special twist as fans were allowed back in MLB ballparks for the first time since 2019, at least when it comes to regular season games. The Cubs were facing one of those hapless teams, so everyone at Wrigley or watching from afar had all the more reason to be excited.

Baseball America Releases a New Top 30 Cubs Prospects List

Minor league spring training is finally underway, which means a month-long ramp up to a minor league season FINALLY being underway. I am obviously more focused on the big league team as a general principle, but the fact that, come May, it’ll approach two years since we’ve been able to follow minor league baseball on the regular? I’m probably going to let out an even bigger exhale when the minor leagues are finally back.

2021 Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 1

Welcome back to Cubs baseball. Or at least welcome back to seeing a team wearing the classic white uniforms with blue pinstripes on the field at Wrigley Field. The 2021 season is officially underway. The Cubs largely failed to answer the opening bell and so they have notched their first defeat of the season, a loss to a Pirates team that some think could reach 100+ or beyond in that category.

Cubs Pitching Prospect Duncan Robinson is Retiring to Head to Law School

A few years ago, Cubs pitching prospect Duncan Robinson was climbing the ladder as a command-control guy the Cubs had landed out of Dartmouth in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Yes, people made very facile comparisons to Kyle Hendricks, who’d also gone to Dartmouth. Robinson was not Hendricks, but he was definitely a prospect worth following.
