As Greenville’s population grows, overall crime rates drops

Crime rates are trending down, overall, even as Greenville’s population trends up, based on a review of preliminary crime data compiled by the Greenvillle Police Department. The population of the city of Greenville was at approximately 74,200 in 2021, an increase from 72,400 in 2020. According to GPD’s most recent 2020/2021 crime statistics, overall incidents were down 5%. Only a few categories of crime showed increases, with motor vehicle theft showing the biggest jump at 15%.
