Sumter County coroner identifies woman hit by deputy's vehicle

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a woman who was hit and killed while attempting to cross a Sumter County highway on Friday. According to the Sumter County Coroner's Office, 63-year-old Janet Wilson of Sumter was hit by a Sumter County deputy who was traveling in the area.

County council puts finishing touches on 2022 budget

BROWNSTOWN — Jackson County council members recently finished up their work on the 2022 budget. That budget, set for adoption during the council’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the courthouse in Brownstown, calls for a general fund of $13,258,990 to be funded through property tax and miscellaneous revenues.

Hayfield man killed in Wabasha County crash

PLAINVIEW, Minn. —A Hayfield, Minnesota, man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a truck Saturday, Sept. 18. Joshua David Peterson, 40, was killed when he struck a truck north of Plainfield at Minnesota Highway 42 and Wabasha County Highway 14, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash happened about 2 p.m.

Lane closures on I-39 through Thursday

Bridge maintenance, planned for next week, will result in north- and southbound, single-lane closures on 1-39 in Marathon, Portage, and Waushara counties. Crews from the Marathon County Highway Department will be spot painting the girders of the County C bridge over I-39. Motorists will encounter 24-hour single-lane closures from noon Monday, September 20 through 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 23.

Meade County looks to fill vacancies in highway department

STURGIS — The Meade County Highway Department is down six employees, but the county’s highway superintendent said despite that, the department is carrying on. “We have throttled back a little bit on graveling just because of some personnel challenges that we are having,” Broyles told Meade County commissioners Wednesday. “It’s kind of catch-as-catch can, and we will respond accordingly. We will take care of the worst situations first and address them.”

Ball Club Road Culvert Replacement to Require Road Closure

From the Cook County Highway Department - September 20, 2021. Beginning Monday, September 27, the Cook County Highway Department will be replacing a large culvert on the Ball Club Road/CR 27 that will require closure of the road from the Trestle Pine Road/FR 1365 to The Grade/FR 170. The project is expected to be complete by Friday, October 1, weather permitting.

EAU CLAIRE — The second bid package for the new Eau Claire County highway facility came in under budget, an encouraging sign for its overall price tag. The Eau Claire County Highway Building Committee during its meeting Friday approved the second bid package at a cost of $7.19 million. The bid package, which includes six separate bids, had a budget of $7.24 million, resulting in cost savings of about $56,000.
