The cricket ecosystem is experiencing a paradigm shift as a large proportion of international cricketers other than India are rejecting their respective country’s central contracts to become freelance agents for the T20 leagues around the world, the World Federation of Players, FICA, explained in its annual report. It should be noted that the Indian Players’ Association is not under the aegis of FICA, which does not sample Indian cricketers. According to the latest report, “49 percent would consider turning down a central deal if they were paid more to play in the domestic leagues”.
