Two Celebrations in One Day on the World’s Fair Park

This will be mostly a photo essay. Saturday was a beautiful day, if a bit warm and I had to come and go from the festivities. Many of the photos are from just after opening of the events so, while the crowds appear to be missing, they came later. In the end, both events were well attended.

On my radar: Eva Rothschild’s cultural highlights

Born in Dublin in 1971, artist Eva Rothschild is best known for her large-scale sculptures. In 2009 she was awarded the Tate Britain annual Duveen Commission, for which she produced Cold Corners, a vast zigzagging sculpture, and in 2014 she became a Royal Academician. She represented Ireland at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. She lives and works in London. Her latest exhibition, Our Life, Our Sweetness and Our Hope, is at Modern Art, London SW1 from Thursday to 25 June.

Senior Profile: Eli van der Rijn dances through it all

Graduating senior Eli van der Rijn is a double major in international literary and visual studies and biopsychology. In his academic career, classes that stood out include a Spanish class on the Argentine short-story writer Jorge Luis Borges and Experiments in Physiology, a class that gave its students a certain amount of freedom, as they designed their own experiments. Between classes, van der Rijn helps students better their writing skills as a writing fellow. This semester, he assumed the leadership role of head fellow. After graduation, he will take a position as a research assistant at a neurobiology lab in Boston.

The show will focus on the music of Dylan’s legendary 1975-76 Rolling Thunder Revue, and feature, as a guest performer, Rob Stoner, who served as Dylan’s bassist and music director on that tour.

This Year’s Barnstorm Dance Fest Returns Home to Offer Hope

Spring is traditionally the season of rebirth, but this summer Dance Source Houston’s Barnstorm Dance Fest blooms back to life. Reflecting that springtime abundance are this year’s Artists-In-Residence: Kemi OG (she/her), Kirstin Grbic (she/her), and Jakari Sherman (he/him). Each of them have been working hard with DSH to create new pieces that represent an assortment of movement expressions and creative choices.
