DUNLAP, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Two senior student-athletes at Dunlap signed National Letters of Intent on Tuesday. Sophia Remmel signed with Morton College basketball and Caleb Diver signed with Illinois Central College baseball.
Eric Harris had a significant role in Somerset's run to a District 5-8-9 Class 4A baseball championship this past spring. The junior dazzled out of the bullpen. Harris' success was noticed not only at the high school level, but in at the collegiate ranks as well. Recently, Harris announced his intentions to attend and play baseball at NCAA Division III Saint Vincent College.
PAOLA — Kolby Wheeler did not just dream of playing collegiate baseball. The Paola senior had put in countless hours perfecting his craft behind the plate. Not only does he work hard during the season with the Paola Panthers, but Wheeler is also committed to the game he loves year-round. He played youth baseball in Paola, started playing for traveling teams like the Kansas City Blaze and Mac N Seitz and currently works out with strength coach Derek Gordon.
Four Tennessee baseball players were included on D1Baseball's 'College Top 100 Prospects' list for the 2023 MLB Draft, the publication released on Monday. With four on the list, the Vols were tied with Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Florida for second-most, trailing only LSU (6). The SEC once again dominated the Top 100 with 37 prospects, including 14 of the top 25. Overall, LSU and Tennessee led the way with three potential day one picks each.

I’ve long been a fan of the idea of having two above average catchers on your team. It’s something that you often see in college baseball but doesn’t always make its way up to the big leagues. That’s probably more due to the lack of good catching in baseball rather than teams not wanting to do it, but either way, the short and long term benefits of having two good catchers has always been intriguing to me. On that note, the Yankees could have an opportunity to employ exactly that if they were to sign free agent catcher and former Chicago Cubs All-Star, Willson Contreras.
