It's a tough day to be a Chicago Cubs fan. All within the last two days, the Cubs have traded several iconic players, among them are Kris Bryant, Jake Marinsnick, Javier Baez, Trevor Williams, Craig Kimbrel, Ryan Tepera and Anthony Rizzo. Fans and teams alike across Chicago have taken to...
There’s a pretty simple explanation for why we are both of us feeling, in addition to any sadness or hope or whatever, like we just sat on a hundred batteries shocking our buttocks until we reached the ceiling. The explanation? We’ve never seen a Cubs Trade Deadline like this before.
Despite their better efforts, the Cubs are still able to field a team for tonight’s opener against the Washington Nationals. Here’s the lineup, complete with a totally remade infield. Chicago Cubs Lineup:. 1. Rafael Ortega, CF. 2. Willson Contreras, C. 3. Ian Happ, LF. 4. Patrick Wisdom, 1B. 5. David...
The Chicago Cubs were the busiest team in baseball at the 2021 MLB trade deadline, shipping away fan favorites Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo along with All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel in a 24-hour stretch. While the faces of Chicago's 2016 World Series team make their way to new...
There was never any doubt the Chicago Cubs would trade Craig Kimbrel ahead of the trade deadline. But I don’t know if any of us saw the Cubs hooking up with the crosstown rival White Sox on a deal. First, we have to give props to Michael Cerami over at...
NEW YORK -- Javier Baez got his wish: He's headed to New York to play with longtime pal Francisco Lindor. But first, the Mets are counting on their big-name newcomer to hold down the fort at shortstop for a while. With the trade deadline fast approaching Friday, the Mets acquired...
Wow. That’s all most of us can say at this point. We knew the Boston Red Sox were looking heavily at Anthony Rizzo, so for the New York Yankees to swoop in and scoop him up was somewhat of a shock. We knew this trade deadline was figuring to be a wild one but now the reality has set in. Chicago Cubs fans now know it is inevitable, the 2016 team is being scrapped.
This kind of thing is only rarely even rumored and reported – it probably never gets past the half-joking phone call stage – so I think it’s worth mentioning here, even if only for the fun. EMBRACE THE CHAOS:. Whatever. If the trades are gonna happen, why not make them...
MLB trade deadline wrap: Cubs deal Bryant (Giants), Baez (Mets) and Kimbrel (White Sox); Braves reload
The 2021 deadline passed at 4 p.m. ET on Friday with a flurry of major moves.
MLB trade deadline - Where things stand for the four Chicago Cubs stars who could be dealt this week
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs' teardown is underway as Friday's 4 p.m. ET MLB trade deadline approaches. Outfielder Joc Pederson (Atlanta) and reliever Andrew Chafin (Oakland) have already been moved -- but the team still employs a handful of available players who could be next in the coming days. Those...
Bleed Cubbie Blue
The trade deadline has passed and Cubs baseball games continue. Here is a preview of one of them!. This is going to be probably the weirdest game preview I’ve ever written. Earlier this afternoon, the Cubs traded the scheduled starting pitcher for tonight’s game, Trevor Williams, to the Mets in the Javier Báez deal.
We’ve seen Javier Baez and Craig Kimbrel get moved already today – just one day after the Chicago Cubs unloaded Anthony Rizzo in a deal with the Yankees. We’ll talk about those in depth in the coming days. We want to focus on the Jose Berrios deal that went down between Toronto and Minnesota earlier this morning because it could, at least in theory, impact the Cubs’ plans in the final hour.
I don’t think I have to tell you what this means: Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are not in the starting lineup for the finale against the Reds at Wrigley Field. Because of his veratility, Bryant has been rumored to just about every team in baseball, while Rizzo has been connected to the Red Sox repeatedly over the past week or so. And since tomorrow’s game comes *after* the trade deadline, the Cubs have decided to hold these two trade chips out of the lineup. I don’t think this necessarily means they’re going to be traded *right now*, but it’s pretty clearly a precautionary step for exactly that purpose.
And you thought the New York Yankees would sell. The Bronx Bombers got a jump-start on Friday’s MLB trade deadline, acquiring slugger Joey Gallo and Joely Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for six prospects. So why are we talking about this on a site dedicated to the Chicago Cubs?
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The first-place San Francisco Giants made a big splash just before the trade deadline Friday, acquiring star slugger Kris Bryant from the Chicago Cubs for two minor leaguers. San Francisco sought an experienced third baseman given the club has been without Evan Longoria because of a...
In case you missed it, the Cubs have traded the heart and soul of their team over the past 24 hours. Gone are Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo. Shocking, sad, and inevitable are words that all come to mind. But the games go on. Jake Arrieta has been...
Theo Epstein discovered an interesting loophole in compensation rules when he ran the Boston Red Sox, and naturally he exploited it. Year after year, Epstein would make a mid-season trade for a marginal player who was set to become a free agent after the season, knowing he wasn’t going to re-sign the player. The Red Sox received a compensation pick in the next draft instead.
One day to go until the MLB trade deadline. Even Thursday figures to be a pretty wild day. We’ve already seen a pretty steady amount of moves in the last few days. For the Chicago Cubs, Joc Pederson is gone. Andrew Chafin has departed to Oakland. Talks about Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel continue to swirl. Now, Javier Baez has stated he wants to play alongside good friend, Francisco Lindor.
