Nor’easter coverage: 83 MPH gust, trees down everywhere, 122k+ without power

CAPE COD – A nor’easter meteorologists are calling a “bomb cyclone” rapidly intensified overnight just offshore. A large tree was reported down on Fox Hill Road in Chatham where about 100 customers are without power. Another tree was reported down on Route 6A in Dennis. The winds are expected to continue to increase with potential hurricane force gusts especially after midnight.

Crash closes Route 6 between exit 89 and the rotary in Orleans

ORLEANS – A two-vehicle crash temporarily closed Route 6 between exit 89 and the Eastham Rotary. State and local police were responding to multiple reports of a vehicle operating erratically just before the crash which occurred by the Cape Cod Rail Trail overpass. The alleged erratically operated Black Mercedes station wagon collided head-on with a large Capeway Towing flatbed wrecker, Everyone was able to get out of their vehicles, however both drivers were transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further evaluation. Police reportedly took the suspected erratic driver into custody. The investigation is continuing. The road was closed for some time while a large fuel spill from the wrecker involved in the crash was mitigated.

WEST DENNIS – Three people injured in a head-on crash in West Dennis about 3 PM Wednesday. The crash between a Chevy Corvette and a Ford Escape happened in the area of Main Street (Route 28) near Old Jail Lane. At least one person had to be extricated from the wreckage. The victims were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Dennis and Yarmouth ambulances. Traffic was heavily tied up in the area. The crash is under investigation by Dennis Police.

Dale Rogers, lifelong resident of Oak Bluffs, died in the early hours of Oct. 14, 2021, at Cape Cod Hospital, from a massive heart attack. Dale was the youngest child of Phyllis and John Rogers of Oak Bluffs, born at the old Cottage Hospital in Oak Bluffs on Oct. 9, 1959, and according to his siblings, was born with a smile on his face. He continued smiling throughout his life, which his family and friends still marvel about even today.
