'Busy beaver' causes brush fire near Multnomah Falls

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE — A brush fire near Multnomah Falls Thursday night was caused by a busy beaver according to Corbett Fire. Fire officials said the beaver caused a tree to fall onto a power line, sparking the flames. Then, the east wind helped fuel the flames, fire officials said.

GORMAN, Calif. (KABC) -- A blaze likely started by a truck fire spread to at least 220 acres Friday afternoon near Pyramid Lake and the 5 Freeway. The "Emigrant Fire" - named after the lake's Emigrant Landing - was first reported around 2 p.m. It was initially estimated at only an acre, but spread quickly in hot conditions and dry brush.

Fire crews knock down blaze at homeless encampment on South Tacoma Way

A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a homeless encampment near a busy intersection in South Tacoma. Fire crews were quickly able to get the blaze under control. Firefighters were called to the intersection of South Tacoma Way and South 74th Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Joe Meinecke said. He said the fire originated in a homeless encampment, but he did not know if anyone was inside. He said no injuries were reported from the fire.
