Watch Lucy Dacus Cover Regina Spektor’s “Summer In The City” & Play “Night Shift” With Bartees Strange In Chicago

Touring in 2021 is a complicated prospect! Consider the case of Lucy Dacus, who recently released the excellent album Home Video and whose live show is consistently wonderful. Earlier this year, Dacus was announced as the opening act for the long-delayed Bright Eyes reunion tour, but when the delta variant started spreading, Bright Eyes postponed all of that tour’s indoor shows. (I saw one of the outdoor ones. It ruled.) Now, Dacus is out on her own headlining tour, but she was forced to postpone some of her shows after her guitarist Jacob Blizard caught a case of breakthrough COVID. (Blizard wrote on Twitter about his experience with the illness.) Last night, as Brooklyn Vegan points out, Dacus resumed her tour without Blizard, and she was forced to play a relatively unconventional set.

FPA Debuts New Single “Princess Wiko”

FPA—the multifaceted artist Frances Priya Anczarski—today released “Princess Wiko,” the devastating title track of her new album out November 5th, 2021, via 37d03d. “This song is the middle of a journey for our Princess. Here we see her grieving over the memory of a past love and foolishly placing her own worth into the hands of someone who has forgotten her,” explains FPA. “She’s singing ‘I want you for eternity, don’t care if you’re not meant for me; I’ll never say your name in peace, will it keep on haunting me?’ It’s a feeling of eternal desperation…one of rejection, of course, and helplessness. Awaiting validation from an external source is always suffering; especially from a man, in a man’s world.”

Converge’s Jane Doe Model Revealed

As explained when we revisited the album for its 20th anniversary last month, the cover art for Converge’s Jane Doe is iconic. I’ve been seeing it on T-shirts ever since high school, long before I’d ever heard a note of the post-hardcore luminaries’ music. The artwork, a mixed media portrait of an unknown woman by vocalist Jacob Bannon, has become a central part of Converge’s iconography, functioning as a logo for the band long beyond the Jane Doe album cycle. Many people have it tattooed on their bodies. “Today, that face appears on running shorts and facemasks and coffee mugs and tote bags,” my colleague Tom Breihan wrote, “and it still feels haunting and mysterious.” As of today, it’s a little bit less mysterious.
