County law enforcement prepared for RAGBRAI

DEWITT — Clinton County officials continue to finalize plans for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa stops in DeWitt and Clinton next weekend. Clinton County officials have been planning for months for RAGBRAI to come to Clinton County, Clinton County Sheriff Bill Greenwalt said at Thursday’s Board of Supervisors meeting at the Clinton County Fair in DeWitt. RAGBRAI riders and support individuals will arrive in DeWitt on July 30. Riders will travel from DeWitt to Clinton July 31.

North Center Street Bridges Open

After two years…and a year ahead of schedule…the North Center Street bridges were re-opened to traffic Friday afternoon. Mendocino County Accepting Applicants for Community-Based Advisory Redistricting Commission

This week, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors voted to create a five member Community-based Advisory Redistricting Commission (ARC). In addition to facilitating and seeking public input from the residents of Mendocino County, the ARC will advise and assist the Board of Supervisors with redrawing the supervisorial district boundaries. The Board of Supervisors invites applications from residents of Mendocino County who are interested in serving on the five member ARC and are willing to commit to attending several public workshops and Board of Supervisors meetings beginning in mid-August through mid-December, 2021.

A Villager who painted her house the wrong color is ready to take her swatches to the Architectural Review Committee. Michele Pedersen who lives at 2869 Rain Lily Loop in the Village of Sanibel had been ordered in June to repaint her house after she unwittingly strayed from the color palette put in place by the Community Development District 9 Board of Supervisors. Washington County Supervisors Approve Grant Agreement, Secondary Roads Hire

The Washington County Engineer’s Office has received a grant to help replace one of its dump trucks. County Engineer Jacob Thorius informed the Washington County Board of Supervisors this week that he had applied for a Volkswagen diesel emission grant this spring. This week he was notified that they have been awarded up to 30% of the cost to replace their dump truck, or $60,000. Thorius says they are planning on replacing a 20-year-old truck, and the board approved an Iowa Department of Transportation agreement to receive the grant. The board also approved a personnel change request to hire Tim Kleese as assistant maintenance superintendent as the current assistant John Wagner transitions to the maintenance superintendent to replace JP VanSickle who is retiring this fall.
