'Pretty surreal fire behavior': Big Sur wildfire burns near Bixby Bridge

A winter wildfire carried by high winds ignited in Big Sur late Friday night, closing Highway 1 indefinitely and burning the hills around the iconic Bixby Bridge. The Colorado Fire began around 7:30 p.m. Friday and, by Sunday morning, had burned 1,050 acres, including in parts of Palo Colorado Canyon, south of Carmel-by-the-Sea in Monterey County. Photos also showed the hillside above the famous Bixby Bridge on fire, with fire trucks positioned along the span.
