Maintenance Work on State Route 18 Artic Circle West of Big Bear

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Dry Creek, Fawnskin, Burnt Mill and Camp Angelus Maintenance crews will be conducting rock fall removal, from a previous mudslide, along with multiple maintenance functions with traffic control on State Route 18 (SR-18) west of Big Bear.

Fill the Bus For Our Local Veterans

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – Earlier this year, Mountain Transit started a Veterans Outreach Program to honor and support the nearly 300 local veterans that live in our community. Their first outreach event is ‘Fill the Bus for Local Veterans’, happening on Wednesday, October 13th, from 10am to 6pm at Stater Bros. Markets in Big Bear as well as Goodwin & Son’s Market in Crestline.

“Imagine a Day Without Water” Coloring and Creative Art Contest

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – All youth in the Big Bear area are invited to put their creative skills to work to convey the value of water locally. A $300 Grand Prize in local gift cards is up for grabs, along with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for each age category: 5th grade and younger, middle school (6th-8th), and high school (9th-12th). Youth 5th grade and younger can color pages from an EPA WaterSense coloring book available on the website while all ages have the choice of any creative media including, but not limited to photography, painting, sculpture, woodwork, ceramics, poetry, writing, drawing, earthworks, video, song, dance, textiles, etc.

North Big Bear Restoration Project

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – A draft proposal to return beneficial fire and improve recreation access, among other restoration activities, on the north side of Big Bear Lake was released today by San Bernardino National Forest officials. The proposal, called an environmental assessment, for the North Big Bear Landscape Restoration Project covers a 13,000-acre area between the Big Bear Dam and Baldwin Lake.

California Drivers Reminded to Watch out for Wildlife

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – As the season changes and Californians turn their clocks back an hour, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is urging drivers to be extra alert for wildlife on the state’s roads and highways. Watch out for Wildlife Week happens in late September, and that’s no accident. The time change means fewer daylight hours, and it coincides with the time of year that deer, elk, bears and other animals are on the move – either for migration, mating or foraging.

Big Bear Boulevard Lane Closures

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – The City of Big Bear Lake Department of Water is doing its part to ensure that Monday continues to live up to its reputation. To that effect, there will be lane closures on Big Bear Boulevard, Monday, September 27th from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Cienega at the east to Talbot at the west. Lane closures will impact both directions of travel, but there will be at least one lane open at all times.

Advisory Due to Smoke from California Wildfires

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – This advisory is in effect through Friday afternoon. South Coast AQMD will issue an update if additional information becomes available. Wildfires in central California are producing heavy smoke that is moving south towards the South Coast Air Basin. While the heaviest smoke will be present in the upper atmosphere across the region, impacts on surface air quality are expected in the San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and San Jacinto mountains.

Saturday is National Public Lands Day

Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – On Saturday, September 25, 2021, the Southern California Mountains Foundation and Care for Big Bear invite you to take part as we celebrate our beautiful landscape on the 26th annual National Public Lands Day. We’ll come together as a community to improve the lands we love so much – volunteers can donate their time on Maple Hills Trails or at City parks. Registration is required (but free) for both activities.

Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is Back This Weekend

Big Bear News – Long Beach Ca: Covid 19 has changed so much including the auto racing world. Last year the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach was cancelled, it felt like spring was cancelled. Again this year we weren’t graced with a springtime race event in Long Beach but, now even better, we’ll be treated to a fall IndyCar championship showdown. The tough race circuit on streets of Long Beach will determine who will hold the 2021 championship trophy and this year the points are close than ever.
