Bath reaches tax settlement agreement with shipyard

Bath’s assessor has reached a property tax agreement with Bath Iron Works, resolving two property tax abatements filed by BIW with respect to the 2019 and 2020 tax years. “My top priority has been to negotiate a resolution that is reasonable, fair and reflective of the yard’s just value, as required by Maine law,” Assessor Brenda Cummings said in a news release from the city.

Several Amato’s Locations In Maine Now Closed On Sundays

As the summer kicks into full gear here in Maine, so does the outdoor activity. For so many Mainers, that often means lunch on the run. Whether it's a hike to a swimming hole or a day laying on the beach, many of us pack a lunch that includes an Amato's real Italian sandwich. But if you're planning a Sunday excursion and want that classic Italian sandwich to munch on, you'll have to plan accordingly because several Amato's locations in Maine are now closed on Sundays.

NEEDHAM, Mass. — Erika Tarantal heads to the river: the Kennebec River and the town of Bath, Maine to be exact. There, she hops the city trolley to tour the retro, yet revitalizing, downtown. Where to Eat in Maine Right Now

At a moment when comfort food is everything and white-tablecloth places just haven’t been top of mind, this downtown Augusta newcomer nails the sweet spot between elevated and approachable. You can have a lovely date night in the industrial-chic dining room. You can get a nice piece of fish or spaghetti bolognese and a sophisticated cocktail. Or you could come in jeans and slurp house-made ramen while you crush IPAs and stare at a bar TV. State Lunch (the name and stained-glass marquee are inherited from a mid-century predecessor) had to make the pandemic pivot just weeks after opening. Its takeout game has been strong, and as indoor dining becomes the norm again, it’s a welcome player in the continuing Augustaissance. 217 Water St. 207-213-6025.

The graphene oxide-polyvinyl alcohol aerogel weighs just 2.1kg per cubic metre, making it the lightest sound insulation ever manufactured. It could be used as insulation within aircraft engines to reduce noise by up to 16 decibels - reducing the 105-decibel roar of a jet engine taking off to a sound closer to that of a hair-dryer.
