FBI now assisting APD in Piedmont Park murder investigation

ATLANTA (CBS46) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirms to CBS46 that it is assisting the Atlanta Police Department in the murder of Katie Janness at Piedmont Park. Janness, 40, was found dead just after 1 a.m. Wednesday inside the park after not returning home from a walk with her dog, Bowie. She was found by her life partner, Emma Clark, who went looking for her when she did not answer her phone.

Police question man who remained on scene after fatal SW Atlanta shooting

One man is dead and another is being questioned by investigators after police say an argument escalated into gunfire in southwest Atlanta Thursday evening. Officers responded to reports of a person shot at 3450 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW just before 6 p.m., according to an Atlanta Police Department news release. When they arrived at the scene, officers found one man dead and another who remained in the area after the shooting.

The FBI announced Thursday that it joined in on the investigation of a Georgia woman and her dog found stabbed to death in Atlanta’s popular Piedmont Park. As CrimeOnline previously reported, the incident happened Wednesday off of 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive. Katherine Janness, 40, told her fiancee, Emma Clark, she was taking a walk with their dog, Bowie, and was never seen alive again.

WATCH: Police release video of car, suspect connected to SW Atlanta homicide

Police have released a video of a car they believe was involved in the July 17 case of a man found shot dead in a burning vehicle in southwest Atlanta. Atlanta police are asking for help from the public to identify the suspects and the vehicle seen in the video. Investigators believe the person in the car is involved in the shooting of 34-year-old Danzel Mullins, which took place near the 900 block of Cunningham Place, according to a news release.
