The Daily Chop: Braves grab 2-1 lead in NLDS, Pederson, Game 4, and more

Following their 3-0 victory over the Brewers on Monday, Braves headlines were understandably centered around the heroics of Joc Pederson. With pitching being so dominant for each team thus far in the series, a three-run blast to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning became the defining moment. Beyond just Pederson, Atlanta got an outstanding start from Ian Anderson, clutch defense from Dansby Swanson, and impressive work from the entire bullpen. With their victory in Game 3, the Braves are well-positioned for a return to the NLCS.

Braves offense does enough early to nullify a late Mets surge in a 6-5 Atlanta win

Atlanta had a pretty smooth journey to their 87th win of the season on Saturday on the whole, even without most of their starters, despite a late surge by New York. After a relatively quiet first two innings from both offenses, the Braves opened the scoring in the third. After a bizarre incident in which the sole tore off of his shoe during a swing mid-at-bat in the first inning, Joc Pederson hit a solo homer in his second at-bat. A double from Orlando Arcia was followed by an RBI single from Freeman to score the second run of the inning.

Game Thread: Atlanta Braves @ San Diego Padres

Come join us today and discuss the matchup of Huascar Ynoa and the Braves versus Vince Velasquez and the Padres. The Braves’ magic number currently stands at eight, with eight scheduled games remaining plus the postponed game against the Rockies that will likely only be played if it has playoff ramifications. The Phillies will be facing the Pirates again on Saturday as the second game of their three game matchup, so the Braves would do well to take care of business against the struggling Padres and take anything the Pirates can do against Philly as a bonus.

The Daily Chop: Thursday washout, rotation plans and more

The Atlanta Braves’ homestand ended in a washout Thursday as the series finale was postponed due to unplayable conditions at Truist Park. The Braves and Rockies played through a persistent rain storm Wednesday night and the field soaked up a lot of water. That presents a pretty big scheduling problem for Major League Baseball as Atlanta and Colorado don’t have another mutual off day between them. That means that Thursday’s game is likely to be played on October 4 which would be the day after the 2021 regular season is scheduled to end. The game will likely only be played if it has a direct bearing on the NL East or Wild Card standings.

Atlanta Braves: the July trade that didn’t happen

On multiple occasions, Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos discussed his desire to add a “true” centerfielder to the roster. Now we know one direction he headed. It is evident by now that the Atlanta Braves have had concerns with the offensive production of Cristian Pache.
