West Davenport Arts Council Holding Exhibit And Art Opening For Local Artists

The West Davenport Arts Council, in conjunction with Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities (MCC QC), is hosting a wine and cheese art exhibition for local artists Sara Meyer, Karene Nagel, Wendy “Bingo” Fellenzer, Cathy Bolkcom, Cyndi Peterson, Sarah Robb, Jen Hansen and Mona Ritemon on the evening of Wednesday, December 1st, from 6-8pm. These artists work in various mediums and styles and what unites them is their connection to Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities (MCC QC).

Batesville Area Arts Council and Lyon team for Art Walk on Main

Lyon College art students will be featured in the Batesville Area Arts Council’s (BAAC) Art Walk on Main Street, Friday, Dec. 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. BAAC is collaborating with Lyon students to host the event, which will offer guests a self-guided viewing of artwork by students and local artists in downtown Batesville. The event is free and open to the public.

Art Gallery Reopens After a Year of Closure

The Marist College Art Gallery, a center of creativity and visual dialogue on campus, has reopened after a year of closure due to the pandemic. With less COVID restrictions this semester, the art community was eager to open the gallery which is currently showing a faculty exhibition open Monday through Saturday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., until Dec. 4.

Multiple exhibits open Friday at Gadsden Museum of Art

A reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday for four new exhibits that debut that day at the Gadsden Museum of Art. “Feeling Unreal” by Ann Trondson will be on display in the main and Piano galleries. An exhibit by Elisabeth Pellathy is set for the Leo Reynolds Gallery, according to a news release from the museum.

This beautiful art exhibition features 23 artists, with 57 paintings and three wood turned pieces. The Southside Artists Association was established in 1965 as the Chesapeake Art Guild. As the organization grew, members were added from Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and North Carolina. The name was changed to accommodate the addition of these areas.

LESS IS MORE: A New Exhibition at the Schuylkill Center

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Schuylkill Center’s art gallery will be decked out in dazzling portraits of local Black figures, Liberation leaders, and ancestors, created by Philadelphia artist and community organizer Makeba Rainey. Her exhibition, LESS IS MORE: The Nature of Letting Go, will be on display through March 26, and is, as she describes it, “a celebration of a distinctly Black American ingenuity.” Her title refers less to a reverence for minimalism for its own sake than “a call to do the most with the least… as we have always done.”
