NEARING COMPLETION – Almost all of the delayed materials have arrived and the contractor is finishing up area lighting and some final grading before the plaster is done. “We are planning to be complete in about two weeks,” Littlefield City Manager, Mitch Grant said.

New Art Installation Goes Up at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

A new art installation is now up at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens, not far from the Route 1 corridor. Called “Passage: Reflections of Time & Space,” the installation by D.C. artist and architect Omar Hakeem uses mirrors and logs from the area to make displays that incorporate the natural surroundings.

Evansville officials announce Deaconess Aquatic Center opening date

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)– City officials announced some important dates that lead to people being able to jump into the pools at Deaconess Aquatic Center. “There’s going to be a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication on October first, but then the public opening is Monday october 4th,” Deputy mayor Steve Schaefer said.

Committee starts fundraising for Aquatic Center

Woodward’s Aquatic Center Committee has kicked off its Fall fundraiser for the first phase of the indoor aquatic center. It will be located at the northwest corner of 13thand Downs, beside the Woodward Senior Center. “$50,000 is needed to complete phase one of the project, which includes architectural 3D renderings, floor plans, and estimated construction cost,” said Dr. Trent Yadon, representative of the local aquatic center committee.

On September 6, 1776, the first American submarine called Turtle attempted a military maneuver in an effort to help George Washington turn the tide of battle. Invented by David Bushnell, the submersible Turtle had a maximum speed of 3 knots (a little less than 3.5 miles per hour). It consisted of a wooden barrel-like body, a brass & glass cap, navigation instruments, oars, and a treadle-powered screw propeller. The three bombs on board were planned to sink the British ship HMS Eagle in New York Harbor.
