WWE has had to deal with the dire consequences of the global pandemic, which has brought virtually all industries to their knees in the past year and a half. The invention of the ThunderDome allowed the Stamford-based federation to continue the shows, but the empty arenas and subsequent crisis had a devastating impact to say the least.
AEW has already signed several former WWE stars since coming into existence in 2019, and AEW World champion Kenny Omega believes many more would love to make the jump. In an interview with Tokyo Sports (h/t Wrestling Inc's Robert Gunier), Omega said: "Absolutely, more will come out in the future. I think about 90 percent of wrestlers in WWE want to be in AEW."
AEW star CM Punk took a subtle shot at WWE Tuesday while responding to a tweet from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. Meltzer mentioned how AEW could potentially house more than 20,000 fans for tonight’s Grand Slam edition of AEW Dynamite at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York. Metlzer tweeted that with AEW’s production set moving into the arena, a bunch of new tickets have been made available for the show.
