New York Film Critics Circle and National Board of Review Announce 2021 Awards Dates

Two early and critical precursors to the awards season have announced their voting dates and annual galas. Invasion by Aliens? 'Not Today,' Growls Sam Neill in Apple TV+ Sci-Fi Trailer

“What is being visited upon our Earth… is not of our Earth.” That ominous declaration is made by the president of the United States in the full trailer for Apple TV+’s Invasion, embedded above. Set across multiple continents, the 10-episode sci-fi series from Academy and Emmy Award-nominated producer Simon Kinberg (The Martian) and David Weil (Hunters) follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. The cast includes Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) as Sheriff John Bell Tyson, a weathered rural lawman on the verge of retirement; Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp) as Trevante Ward, a soldier stationed in Afghanistan; Golshifteh Farahani (Gen: Lock) as Aneesha Malik, a first generation Syrian immigrant, wife and mother living in Long Island, and Firas Nassar (Sirens) as her businessman husband Ahmed; and Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2) as Mitsuki, a mission control staffer in Japan’s JASA space program. The first three episodes premiere Friday, Oct 22, followed by new episodes every Friday. Emmy nominee Jakob Verbruggen (The Alienist) directed and serves as an executive producer alongside Kinberg and Weil, writer Andrew Baldwin, Audrey Chon, Amy Kaufman, Elisa Ellis  and Katie O’Connell Marsh.

Highland Village Police Blotter

The Highland Village Police Department has filed charges against the four men who were allegedly involved in an attempted ATM burglary and subsequent police chase on Aug. 24. The suspects tried to flee from police, on foot and in multiple vehicles, after officers responded to a report of an ATM burglary in progress just after 6 a.m. at the Denton Area Teachers Credit Union at the corner of FM 407 and Briarhill Boulevard. Officers from many other nearby law enforcement agencies responded to help search for the suspects in the area of FM 407 and FM 2499. One suspect was found hiding behind a dumpster near Smoothie King and was apprehended after a foot chase. The other three suspects were found in a suspect vehicle parked in the nearby Academy parking lot. Arrested were three men from Houston ages 18, 20 and 27; and an Arlington man, 24. The suspects were in a white pickup truck that had been reported stolen that morning from a Highland Village apartment complex.

- 17-year-old goalkeeper signs two-year scholarship. The Huddersfield Town Academy has signed 17-year-old goalkeeper Michael Acquah on a two-year scholarship. Michael has joined up with the Under-19 side, and is boarding at Rishworth School with his new teammnates. Born on 24 March 2004, Michael joins Town from Southend Manor Farm.
