Martensdale-St. Mary’s had finally overcome years of State tournament stagnation with three-straight wins to claim its first State title. The ensuing warning shot was delivered with emphatic oomph, leaving little doubt who is the state title favorite. Harpenau secured 14 consecutive outs following his opening mishap, allowing Class 1A’s top seed to secure a relatively easy quarterfinal win Monday in Carroll, paving the way for their third straight state semifinal trip. Remsen St. Mary’s (27-3) obliterated the underdog No. 8 Grundy Center thanks to surgical precision from Harpenau as well as a strong collective of timely hitting, leading to a 14-0 victory in five innings.

Frustration over delay in re-naming of Castlerea estates

Frustrations were expressed over delays in renaming new estates in Castlerea, at the recent meeting of the Roscommon Municipal Authority. The issue was raised by Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice who said he had first raised the issue in 2018 and enquired of the Council Executive if progress had been made on the issue.
