Spirit Lake, Iowa– One teen was killed and one was injured after a side-by-side UTV accident near Spirit Lake on Sunday, August 7, 2022. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:30 p.m., a 14-year-old was driving a 2012 Polaris Ranger 800 side-by-side, owned by Scott Groeneweg of Orange City, southbound on Basswood Lane in East Oaks North (that’s between Camp Foster and The Narrows on the east side of East Lake Okoboji), or about 3.3 miles up into East Lake from the East/West crossover.

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– A teenager has died from injuries sustained in a weekend UTV crash in Dickinson County. Emergency crews were called to Basswood Lane in rural Spirit Lake around 2:30 Sunday afternoon where an investigation revealed the UTV’s 14-year-old driver lost control causing the vehicle to roll onto its side and hit a tree.

A 15-year-old is dead after a UTV accident near Spirit Lake according to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office.

A judge has ruled against the owner of a Spencer trailer court who sued after the city turned off power to the trailer court just east of the Clay County Fairgrounds. The City of Spencer took the action last month citing safety concerns over wiring and other issues. Owner Bill Caskey was seeking an injunction to get power restored to the trailer court. But, District Court Judge Shayne Mayer sites an administrative rule prohibiting dangerous conditions from existing in residential areas. The judge adds that claims by those who are still living at the trailer court about what they say are dangerous conditions due to there being no power don’t hold merit because those residents are still choosing to live there.
