In 1959, the city of Camden left special postcards on out-of-town visitors’ cars inviting them to get in touch with Mayor E.C. Rhame. As Camden Archives and Museum Director Katharine Richardson reported in 2014, many of those visitors would use those cards to tell city officials what they thought of Camden.

Sweet Pea is a 10-month-old tortoiseshell, female domestic shorthair kitten. She is spunky and full of energy. Sweet Pea is current on all of her age-appropriate shots, has been spayed and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and AIDs. She had an eye issue when she was a young kitten, but it was treated, and it has not slowed her down at all. Her eye remains cloudy, but the vet is confident that she has vision in both eyes. Sweet Pea gets along with other cats and would love to find a family of her own.

2 die in head-on wreck in Sumter County

A driver and passenger died in a two-vehicle wreck on Lynches River Road in Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon. Cameron Alexis Ard, 22, of Lake City, was the restrained driver of the vehicle that crossed left of center striking another vehicle head-on, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said. He was pronounced dead on scene.

With COVID-19 cases back on the rise, the Sumter Police Department's annual Back to School Bash was canceled for a second year in a row. According to Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt, the police department is still planning to supply students with school supplies this year. How officers will do it is to be determined.
