The first building erected in Sumner County in 1865 was the log ranch house of Degola and Caddo, which was used as a stock waystation and trading post along the Chisholm Trail. This was where Jesse Chisholm or other travelers on the trail could stop, exchange horses and get a few supplies before moving on.
