LIRR commuters coming back in big numbers, but service cuts remain in place

LIRR riders are starting to come back in big numbers, and many of them say railroad service levels need to come back, too. With Long Island Rail Road weekday ridership levels inching toward 60% of what they were in 2019 — a year the railroad set a modern ridership record — commuters and advocates say more trains are needed to give riders more options, and to allow them to keep a safe distance from one another.

Gasoline prices rise on Long Island, AAA says

Drivers may notice it's costing more to fill up at the pump as gasoline prices have spiked since last year. Prices at the pump in Suffolk and Nassau counties hit an average of $3.39 a gallon for regular gas Sunday, a jump from last year’s $2.18 average price, according to the AAA. The average price was $3.29 a month ago, $3.32 a week ago, and $3.38 Saturday.

Just Sayin': Paying above car sticker prices is insane

I understand there are shortages of cars right now, but I am appalled at the pricing. Asking $2,000 to $7,000 over the sticker price (which is already inflated) is insane. During storm aftermaths, state Attorney General Letitia James was adamant that no business would take advantage of customers with price gouging. Gas stations, small businesses, etc. were subjected to scrutiny and fines. Why is the auto industry exempt?
