New ATU Faculty Members Complete Orientation

Twenty-three new members of the Arkansas Tech University community participated in an orientation program for incoming faculty members in advance of the fall 2022 semester. Offered by the ATU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), the stated purpose of the program is “to inform and inspire faculty who are new to Arkansas Tech University.”

Lowrey-LaGrone Named Instructor of Health Science

Star Lowrey-LaGrone will join the University of the Ozarks faculty this fall as an instructor of health science. Lowrey-LaGrone most recently served as an adjunct faculty member teaching health courses at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. She recently completed a master’s of science in nursing degree from the University of Arkansas.

ATU Library Website Adds Features for Fall 2022

Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center has added new resources to its web presence to better serve Arkansas Tech University faculty, students, staff and guests. “Front and center-right are now the borrowing privileges and the services for the major user groups,” said Philippe Van Houtte, systems librarian at Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center. “Under that, the image carousel will include pictures of students taken in the library to illustrate the interactivity between the student body and the library. Those pictures will be changed frequently. A library blog feed, a library Twitter account feed and a list of videos made for the library complete the home page.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic August 24 at ATU

The Arkansas Department of Health will provide a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Arkansas Tech University on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The clinic will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Hull Building Student Union, 1306 N. El Paso Ave. in Russellville. Participation in the clinic is open to ATU students, faculty and staff as well as the general public.

Teacher Ed Program Lauded for Praxis Pass Rates

The University of the Ozarks’ Pat Walker Teacher Education Program has been recognized for its students’ high pass rates in the state licensure exams. U of O elementary education students ranked first in Best-Attempt Pass Rates and sixth in First-Attempt Pass Rates in Arkansas in 2021, according to the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ). Aspiring teachers in Arkansas must take and pass the Praxis Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects test, one of the final steps before earning a teaching license.

Douglas Joins Ozarks as Academic Support Coordinator

MaKenzie Douglas has joined the University of the Ozarks as an academic support coordinator in the Jones Learning Center (JLC). Her first day at Ozarks was Monday, Aug. 8. Douglas most recently served as an academic advisor at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. She also served a graduate school internship at U of O in the JLC, Registrar’s Office, and the athletic department during the summer of 2021.

ATU Sociology Student Group Wins National Award

An organization for sociology students at Arkansas Tech University earned national recognition during the 2022 American Sociological Association meeting in Los Angeles, Calif. ATU’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the international sociology honor society, was named AKD chapter of the year in recognition of its activities over the past three years.
